We run a number of competitions and awards for students, from our Great Debate aimed at those age 15 and over to our Write your own historical fiction awards for pupils age 9 and up and a number of different competitions under the umbrella of the Young Historian Scheme. In addition to these we have our Young Quills Award.
The IRF Student Essay Competition is an annual contest held to recognize promising road research. This competition is open to all students attending an IRF Member university in good standing, as well as IRF Fellows currently enrolled as full time students.
The competition will reopen for submissions in early 2021. Established in 1971, in memory of a St Hugh’s College alumna, the Julia Wood Prize is an annual History essay competition open to Sixth Form pupils who have not been in the Sixth Form of any school or college for a period of more than two years.
The competition is open to any writer, regardless of nationality, aged 18 or older, who has never been the author of any published novel. The competition is open to all undergraduates students at Indiana University, Bloomington, not just History majors and minors. Students generally submit an essay they have written for their courses, though they are encouraged to refine and edit before submission (see suggestions below).
